Barbara Wilson Arboleda
I am a creative artist, voice-specialized speech-language pathologist, and voice teacher.
I graduated from the MGH Institute of Health Professions at Massachusetts General Hospital, completing my specialty rotation in voice disorders at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, where I worked as the Clinical Coordinator of the Voice & Speech Laboratory from 2013 to 2019. Currently, I see patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
I’m committed to the development of an integrated voice pedagogy that honors both the art and the science of teaching. I have a special interest in teaching singing technique for contemporary commercial music (e.g., rock, pop, country, folk) and the impact of stress and anxiety on the voice.
I’ve been an invited speaker on a variety of voice topics at Boston University, Salem State University, Shenandoah University, the Longy School of Music, and KEM Hospital in Mumbai, India. My journal articles include “Strength Training and Rock Singing for the Young” in the Journal of Singing and “Maintenance of Postural Alignment for Voice Production”, written with physical therapist Arlette Frederick in the Journal of Voice. I wrote the textbook chapter “The Speech-Language Pathologist’s Evaluation of the Hoarse Child”, with Shirley Gherson, for Pediatric Voice Disorders. I had the privilege of teaching the graduate course in Voice Disorders at Bridgewater State University from 2020 – 2024.
